Wake Up to Google Instant September 9, 2010
If you’ve Googled today, no doubt you’re familiar with Instant — it’s staring you right in the face. Google launched the technology yesterday, September 9. As you type, Google Instant gives you predictive results instantaneously. We’re not just talking about simple suggestions from the Google Toolbar — the entire page is updated on the fly.
So what was Google’s motivation for this update? Google states, “Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly… This means that you can scan a results page while you type.”
Really? I don’t think many people will be reading and processing the search results while they type. More likely, they will stop typing to view the results that are popping up onscreen. For experienced searchers who can stay focused, the predictive typing and immediate results of Google Instant may be beneficial.
So will this serve as a huge benefit to you? Or simply a distraction to pinpointing the results you’re after?
